A Mid War Dust Up

I had a chance to play a game a couple of months back with Keith and I never got a chance to post it up. I had my german infantry with Marder II's and Panzer III's.  He had his Irish guards with Churchhills and his mounted AT guns.

The battle started out with a shootout between my Marder III's against his AT guns mounted on trucks.

My Panzer III's try to assault his objective guarded by an infantry platoon and 8 6 pounders.  I din't have much luck.

Keith assaulted my objective with his Churchhills and an infantry Platoon. I kept my infantry and pak38's gone to ground since I couldn't crack his front armor.  He never took the bait to assault me so I could blast apart his Churchills.

My reserves came on the table but were too late to save the tanks and got ripped up by some machine guns in the Manor house.

A bird's eye view from Keith's side of the battle.  He was almost ready for the final assault.

I narrowed down his forces but I just didn't have enough left to kick him off the objective.

Keith was sizing me up and dialing in the range.

Keith finally ended it by crushing my flank and destroying my morale.  It was a fun and it's probably about time he gives me a rematch.

Flames of War AAR U.S 7 th Armored ARC v. Jagtiger Company with Carius

I finally manged to get a game of Flames of War in with my friend Jason Paulus last week.  I brought my armored rifles from the 7th Amored Div. featured in the Blood, Guts and Glory book. My army consited of 2 units of ARP 2 units of Shermans each had a Jumbo 2 79 M4A3 and 1 plain Sherman, a recon platoon, and 2 units of 3 M7 Priests.Jason loves his big cats and brought a List from Remagen.  He had Carius in a Jagtiger, 2 other Jagtigers, 2 Jagpanthers, 3 gun 105 battery and a unit of infantry loaded iwth panzer fausts.

A shot of the table we played on.
WE rolled up Surrounded on the scenario table.  It wasn't the best scenarios for Jasons army since he always defends and didn't allow for his range advantge with his Jagtigers.  He had to setup first and he kept the Jagpanther platoon in immediate ambush.

I deployed 1 unit of Priests with the 2 observer tanks, my recon and 1 unit of ARP at one end and the rest at the other so I could try to take advantage of trying to stay away from Carius since he doesn't suffer any penalties for shooting at long range or concealment.

I had first turn I moved both units of tanks up and both units of ARP.  I ended up killing on Jagtiger and a wirblewind and nothing else. my first turn.  Jason hit me a lot with everything but couldn't roll a fire power roll for anything any bailed 2 tanks and his wirblewind killed one halftrack and one infantry stand.

His Guns and infantry protected the objestives.

on the second turn I moved up my tanks again to shoot at the jagtiger hidden behind the corner building and and they accomplished their mission by destroying that tank.  My oberver tanks fired again on Carius but just kept bouncing shells off the rear of tank.  My ARP shot at the guns and didn't do anything.  The priests kept try to range in in Carius and the Jagpanthers and only bailed on Jagpanther. Json struck back killing 2 76s and bailing the Junbo in platton right in front of them and Garius killed 2 76's in the other platoon.

I finally had my recon in position and took away gone to ground of this infantry.  We shot at the infantry and guns and manged to pin both of them. I ended up bailing Carius with my Priests and killing both Jagpanthers.  Jason failed to unpin both unit and Carius failed to get back into his tank so it wasn't looking good so he surrendered.

It was a pretty fun game and could have went either wy with a few key dice rolls.  I am really looking forward to our next game.

Viking Longhouse for Saga, Finished

I finally finished the Long House. Too much real life has been getting in the way of my gaming and modeling.

I treated the Fuzzy material with a watered down Plaster paste, but it didn't harden very weel so I ended up painting on some matte medium that harden it up nicely.  I wanted to harden up the fuzzy stuff so I could paint it.  If I try this again I think I'm just going to use the matte medium to hardened it up.

I also added some sand to the base.

Here's aa sot of the base coat for the building and roof with a heavy dry brush of  light tan.

Since the building was a darker brown I went with a sandy colored base.

I had a lot of fun making this building, now I need to finish up the rest of my vikings and get them all on the gaming table.

Product Reiew: Manor House-Arnhem by Battlefront

I just received my Manor House Arhem in the mail today.  I was pretty excited to receive it.  I think it is my favorite of the premium subscription houses.  The Building didn't come in the same type of packaging as the other houses, no printed box only brown cardboard and no molded stryrofoam packaging.

I think it was a big mistake not to package it in Styrofoam since mine building arrived broken.  This is the 2nd building that I have received that was broken, the first one was the church.

It was only wrapped in bubble wrap with very little bubble wrap added for packing material.

The terrace had 3 pieces broken off.

The design of the building is great. The colors of each floor seem to match pretty close. I have seen other ones where the colors don't match very well.

Overall, I really like the building. But I am a little disappointed that it came broken.  I'm  sure I can glue back together and do a little touch up but who wants to do that when you buy something new.  I have enough things for fix on my kids cars.

Overall rating is 7 out of 10 Chalupas.

Viking Longhouse for Saga, Part 1

I have been painting some vikings for Saga and I decided I needed some terrain pieces to make the game a little more interesting. So today I decided I will start making a Viking longhouse. I made pretty good process on it today.

I started with a hard board base and I outlined the size of the building and drilled some holes for the posts.
I used foam core and some dowels for the frame

Hot glue works pretty good to get fast results.

I cut out the roof pieces as you can see, I used foam core again.

I glued the peices together and I added some trim to the front.

I want ed to add some loags to give it a rustic look. The roof was a little crooked so I had to cut the trim a little crooked, oops!

I made the front of the house out of cardboard and I glued hobby sticks to the front of the cardboard. I used cardboard so I could have opening and closing doors by cutting out the doors and creasing them so they will fold back and forth.

Here is ashot of the back after I glued the sticks to the cardboard.

I cut aroung the cardboard with my scroll saw if you use some soft wood you could cut it with a hobby knife. I screwed up the right hand corner but I won't be able to see it once the roof is on.

I glue balsa wood strips to sides.

I bought some fuzzy fabric at the craft store, Ihope it gives me the effect I'm looking for.

I decided to let the siding dry so it was time to work on the roof.  I glued in on with white glue, so now I'll wait until it dries. I kind of like the way it looks now but I'll treat it tomorrow and then we can add some trim to the house.

Welcome to my Blog.

This will be the new outlet for my miniature painting, terrain building, battle after action reports, product reviews and a lot of tomfoolery and skullduggery. I have included a few pics of some minis I have painted recently.
